The Machine

A generative percussion instrument for Max/MSP, formerly AE Machine. The release has moved by three months. This page explains why, and what it means if you are already waiting for it.

Why January

This year went beyond anything I expected. Thanks to you, sales have almost reached the limit of the flat-rate tax regime I work under as an independent artist and developer. Releasing The Machine in October would have crossed it a few months before the end of the year, with no time to organize the administrative and fiscal side of my work properly.

So I chose to move the release to January 1. The instrument itself is finished and working beautifully: this delay has nothing to do with it.

And since time has been given to me, I won't let it go to waste. The Machine will arrive with something more, a new element that wasn't in the original plan. What it is will be revealed before release. Follow along on Instagram for the first look.

If you already joined

Nothing to do on your side. Your place is kept. You get one email on release day, with your download.
The manual is yours now. Over a hundred pages, already in your Gumroad library, and free to browse online. You can study the machine for three months before playing it.
The new part comes included. It is part of the release, not a paid add-on.

What the machine is

Eleven synthesis voices written from scratch at sample level.
Markov sequencing with chaotic modulation, so patterns evolve instead of repeating.
Preset morphing between any two states of the machine.
A 26-track stem recorder to capture every voice separately.
macOS and Windows. No paid Max license needed: it runs in full on a free, unlicensed copy of Max.
