Sound Artist / Composer

Ciao, I'm Emiliano Pennisi (artistically active as Avenir). I was originally trained as a graphic designer, then moved into design and programming, later exploring sound as a self-taught practice focused on synthesis and prototyping instruments and compositional processes.

What follows is a brief overview of the recent works I consider most representative. I also curate the subreddit r/musiconcrete, a space dedicated to experimental sound and musique concrète.

Short

Extended

Emiliano is a sound artist, composer, and performer active since the 1990s. His work spans post-rave dancefloors, algorithmic composition, and electroacoustic experimentation. Under the alias Avenir, he released on Heat Crimes, Strictly Groove, Sleep is Commercial, Concrete Records, and Tiptop Audio, blending mutated Italo disco, broken techno, and deformed ambient. His album Broken Antenna in 2012 was listed among the best on Juno UK in the broken nu jazz category. With his current project PureData, he explores environmental feedback, modular patching, and reactive systems inspired by Di Scipio, Roland Kayn, and Jaap Vink. He has released on Opal Tapes and Concrete Records and hosts a monthly show on LYL Radio. He also curates Paradigma, a Palermo-based collective for expanded listening and DIY sound practices, and founded the subreddit r/musiconcrete, a global hub for experimental sound and tape culture.
